According to this later report in the New
York Times, the jury could not come
to a unanimous decision on a sentence of
death, which under New Jersey law,
automatically sentences the defendant to
30 years imprisonment, and
"As he left the courtroom, he glanced
back at his ex-wife and her parents in
the spectator gallery and smiled
broadly."
