An order written by Auschwitz commandant
SS-Obersturmbannführer Arthur
Liebehenschel on
March 23, 1944, was
submitted, along with a
translation to the Nuremberg trials as
document NO-1553.
The order concerns "Instructions to
concentration camp political officers
concerning reports from
the camps to SS authorities, including
reports on inmate releases, punishments,
and deaths."
Executions at Auschwitz must be approved
by the RSHA or Himmler
Liebehenschel states that only he or his
deputy can sign requests for executions
sent to the RSHA
(Reichssicherheitshauptamt = Reich
Security Head Office) or RF-SS
(Reichsführer-SS = Heinrich Himmler).
Transport Jews at Auschwitz
Liebehenschel states that monthly lists
of Jews who have died must be drawn up,
and great care
ensured to see whether they are
"Transport-Jews" or "Jews with a warrant
for protective custody"
