Aoun meets hizbullah fighters during tour of south Lebanon

BEIRUT:
Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader MP Michel Aoun toured a number
of villages and towns in the South of Sunday in what he described as
his first visit to the area in the past 32 years.
Aoun's fist stop was in the village of Qana, where he laid a wreath
on the graves of scores of people who were killed by Israel in the
infamous Qana massacre of 1996.
Aoun then moved to the border village of Rmeish, where he laid a
wreath on the grave of Brigadier General Francois al-Hajj, who was
killed in a car bombing in Baabda in December last year.
Aoun then departed to the town of Bint Jbeil, where he received a
warm welcome from supporters of Hizbullah and Amal Movement.
Addressing a crowd of people in Bint Jbeil, the retired general said
that "Lebanon's sovereignty should apply to all its territories ...
starting from the very first centimeters on our southern border."
Hizbullah MP Hassan Fadlallah and Amal lawmaker Ali Bazzi also gave
brief welcome speeches in Bint Jbeil before Aoun moved to the border
village of Maroun al-Ras, where he met a number of Hizbullah
fighters, who briefed him on some of the battles that they fought
during the 2006 summer war.
Aoun
left Maroun al-Ras to have lunch in the village of Tiri before
heading to the town of Jezzine, his tour's last destination.
Addressing a crowd of his supporters who rallied in the town's main
square, Aoun urged the people of Jezzine to vote freely in next
year's parliamentary elections.
"Don't sell your votes, but rather give your votes to the candidates
who best deserve them," he said.
Aoun also reiterated his call for the return of Lebanese nationals
who fled to Israel following the Israeli withdrawal from the South
in 2000.
Deputy Prime Minister Issam Abu Jamra, Telecommunications Minister
Jebran Bassil and FPM lawmaker Nabil Nicholas accompanied Aoun on
his southern tour.

his Jewish companions about 'our' government, he means the
government of Israel."
